We arrived in Copenhagen on a Saturday morning and left on a Tuesday morning. Our long weekend in Copenhagen was quick and I definitely wish I had more time.
Copenhagen Card
As soon as we arrived we bought the Copenhagen Card at the airport. I highly suggest this if you plan on visiting museums, Tivoli Gardens and take the metro. After buying the Copenhagen Card we conveniently hopped right on to the metro for free and went straight to our AirBnb. However, we did make two mistakes with the Copenhagen Card.
- Tivoli was closed while we were there. They were decorating Tivoli for Christmas. Before you travel to Copenhagen, check that Tivoli will be open. They will close for about two weeks in-between seasons.
- Museums are closed on Mondays. Do not plan to tour a few museums on a Monday like we did. Almost all museums in Copenhagen are closed on Monday’s.
Initially, we thought we would get our money’s worth on the Copenhagen Card, but due to user error, we did not.
Rent bikes
Renting bikes is the best way to get around Copenhagen, I highly suggest this when you visit.
Brunch
The brunch at Kalaset was by far my favorite, so good we went twice. I suggest going on a weekday, weekends are very busy and you probably will have to wait for a seat.
Beer
If you love good beer make sure you stop at a Mikkeller bar, there are dozens scattered about Copenhagen. Be sure to also stop at WarPigs Brewing, great beer with a great atmosphere.
Rundetaarn
One of my favorite sightseeing stops was Rundetaarn, the Round Tower. Beautiful architecture with an amazing view at the top! The entrance fee is included in the Copenhagen Card.
Other activities
We also went to see the Little Mermaid statue, Nyhavn, Paper Island, Freetown Christiania and the Carlsberg Brewery.
It was an action packed long weekend in Copenhagen. I definitely wish we had more time to take the train over to Malmö, Sweden, visit Mons Klint chalk cliffs, and visit some castles and museums. But, there is always next time!
